Declaring a Major or Minor
To declare or change a major or minor:
- Stop by the Department of Art Advising Office, E223 Regis Center for Art, during walk-in hours (9:00-3:00, Monday-Thursday) or call (612) 625-1848 to make an appointment.
- Discuss major/minor requirements with the Coordinator of Advising.
- Obtain a signed major/minor program form from the Coordinator of Advising. She will keep one copy and give you two. One is for you; the original must be submitted to your college advising office.
- When turning in the program form at your college office, be sure to inform the staff whether you’re declaring a major/minor, changing a major/minor, or adding a second major/minor. To cancel a major, you need only notify your college office; it is not required that you notify any office if you wish to cancel a minor.
Transfer Credits
Students who transfer here from other institutions may need to have courses evaluated to have credits accepted in CLA in general or Art in particular. Students requesting an evaluation of an Art course should submit as many course materials as possible, such as a course description, syllabus, portfolio, reading list, notes, tests, and papers to the Coordinator of Advising. In the evaluation we ask two questions. If offered here, would the course be considered upper- or lower-division? Is there an equivalent class taught in the Department? If so, the transferred course may be acceptable in lieu of one we offer. If not, it might be used to satisfy some other requirement or be used as an elective.
